A statement by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman: Troops have intensified efforts to clear the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in various parts of the north east through various military operations on daily basis. It is in line with this that troops of 7 Division Strike Group Team B attached to 22 Brigade embarked on combination of foot and mobile fighting patrols on daily basis to deny the Boko Haram terrorists freedom of action in their area of operations. Yesterday Thursday, 28th April 2016, they embarked on such efforts in the general area of Bogoro, Duguno 1, Duguno 2 and 3. However, on reaching Mbaraka, they encountered some elements of the Boko Haram terrorists who engaged the patrol team in a gun battle. 

Tanker Fire Incident at a Filling Station in Ire, Osun State (Photos)

A tanker filled with Premium Motor Spirit caught fire some hours ago in Iree, Osun State. According to an eyewitness, a fuel tanker which contained 33,000 liters of petrol caught fire in the process of transferring the fuel from the tanker into the underground tank at a filling station – Amolek Nigeria Limited at Poly Junction. The tanker driver who noticed the fire first, alerted people and ran from the tanker. The fire reportedly raged on for hours and burnt ten nearby shops. Thankfully, no life was lost. FG declares Monday May 2nd public holiday

The Federal government has declared Monday May 2nd a public holiday to commemorate workers day celebration which falls on Sunday May 1st. The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau announced this in a statement released and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Bassey Akpanyung.

Mr. Muhammed Lawa l is currently in critical condition at the Katsina General Hospital after he was set ablaze. Narrating how it happened, Lawal said that he was sleeping outside his house at night due to the oppresive heat when he fet someone pour gasonline on him and set him on fire. He is asking the public to assist him as he can't afford his medical bills. He can be reached at Lawan Katsina General Hospital, patients group room 3, bed 11.

Bayelsa Assembly passes Child Rights Bill, swears in 3 opposition members

The Bayelsa House of Assembly on Thursday passed the Child Rights Bill after its third reading, and swore in three opposition members who secured electoral victory through the courts. Peter Akpe, Leader of the House, PDP, Sagbama 1, moved for the third reading of the bill and was seconded by Pakinson Mac Manuel , PDP, Yenagoa 1 constituency. Speaking shortly after passage of the bill, Konbowei Benson, the Speaker of the Assembly noted that the House had passed the bill in its third session but regretted that the bill was not signed into law by the governor of Bayelsa. He exenorated the house for the delays suffered by the bill and expressed appreciation to civil society advocates and others who pushed for the passage of the bill. Following reports by good citizens about Boko Haram terrorists activities and on hearing of very loud explosions near Dikwa this morning, Wednesday 27th April 2016, troops of 22 Brigade embarked on a patrol to Ajiri and Antul villages, South East of Dikwa along Dikwa-Gulumbagana road. The patrol made contact with Boko Haram logistics elements who specialised in using the 2 villages as base for food storage and other logistics before moving them to Bama and then to Sambisa forest. In the encounter, 5 Boko Haram terrorists were arrested comprising 3 adults and 2 minors. The under aged male children were dressed in new Boko Haram uniforms we earlier reported. The troops recovered 1 truck, 2 Golf cars painted in mud, 4 bicycles and 3 x 5kva power generating set, as well as 55 bags of corn.

BAYELSA ASSEMBLY TO SWEAR IN THREE OPPOSITION MEMBERS TODAY

Yenagoa— The leadership of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, yesterday, succumbed to pressure with resolution to swear in three elected members of the opposition parties.  The members-elect are Alfred Belemote (APGA, Brass II), Gabriel Ogbara (ADC, Ogbia III) and Gibson Munalayefa (Labour Party, Ogbia II). The leadership of the House had come under criticisms over its refusal to administer oath of office on the three members-elect. But the Speaker, Mr. Kombowei Benson, yesterday, on the floor of the House announced that the decision to delay the administration of oath of office on the elected opposition legislators was caused by faulty processes. He said that though the opposition legislators would be sworn-in today, “the delay in administering oath was caused by lack of due process.”

Southeast APC demands end to killings by Fulani herdsmen

The South-East leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has demanded an end to the wanton killings of innocent Nigerians and destruction of villages and farmlands by so called Fulani Herdsmen as well as reprisals attacks. In a statement on Wednesday, in Abuja, and signed by spokesman of the South East caucus of the part, Osita Okechukwu, the APC said the killings first in Agatu and recently in Enugu must stop forthwith. Okechukwu said: “It is painful that while the Federal Government of Nigeria is doing everything possible to contain the Boko Haram insurgency; another virus in the name of Herdsmen is dislocating the security architecture of our dear country. Yesterday it was Agatu in Benue State; today it is Ukpabio Nimbo in Enugu State. It must stop. “May we use this opportunity to deeply commiserate with the families of the bereaved; in particular the people and government of Benue and Enugu States. God in his infinite mercy will surely heal the wounds. ...
