COEASU Urges FG TO Re-Open Stalled Re negotiations Or Face Strike
The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU, is appealing to the ministers of education and labour and employment to re-open negotiations on the 2010 agreement which has been allegedly stalled by the leadership of the committee of provosts of federal colleges of education.
At a briefing in Abuja, president of the association, Nuhu Ogirma expressed worry over the seizure of the union’s dues and cooperative societies contribution by the office of the accountant-general of the federation.
The union has therefore given government two weeks ultimatum to address issues raised or face an indefinite strike.
The colleges of education teachers also expressed concerns over the non-payment of salaries for twenty-eight months and the arrears of promotion in states like Osun and Oyo.
The teachers however advised against threats to proscribe unions by some state governments, arguing that labour is an integral part of the development and growth of any economy.
