Cross River University: Students Lock Out Management, Staff Over Asuu Proposed Strike

For more than four hours on Wednesday, , the management and staff of cross river university of technology (CRUTECH), Calabar campus, were held hostage   by students of the institution.
The students’ action followed the resumption of strike action by CRUTECH’s branch of academic staff union of universities (ASUU).
the national executive council (NEC) of ASUU gave CRUTECH’s branch of the union permission to embark on strike, following unresolved industrial issues with the cross river state  government.
According to reliable sources from the union, all attempts by leaders of the union to seek audience on those issues with Governor Ben Ayade of cross river state, have so far proved abortive.
Student government executive who preferred anonymity confirmed the protest, explaining that students were tired of incessant strikes  by their lecturers, especially after a similar national strike action was suspended a one month ago.
