Polytechnic Lecturers On Strike

The Academic Staff Union Of Polytechnics, ASUP says it will begin an indefinite strike from midnight on Sunday following the expiration of the 7-day notice to government.
ASUP president Usman Dutse said in a statement that government has not taken seriously issues raised by the teachers as it failed to even call for a meeting as done with unions in other tertiary institutions.
Dutse also said that its complains include shortfall in salaries, non-payment of salaries both in state and federal polytechnics.
The union is also demanding for the passage of the amended bill to establish the national polytechnic commission and the recall of some members allegedly dismissed illegally by certain institutions.
Information from the ministry of Labour and employment press office however says several attempts to meet with the polytechnic teachers on Saturday, failed.
