Two students have now been killed following a cult clash at the Delta State Polytechnic in Otefe-Oghara. After the killing of one HND II student few days ago due to cult clash, another student was said to have been gruesomely killed yesterday owing to activities of cultism.. The cult clash is reported to be between Aiye confraternity and Eiye confraternity who have battled for some time now to show their supremacy. The deceased was reportedly attacked by rival cultists who used cutlass to chop off his hand while he was trying to fight them. They also used cutlass to open an area of his head which made his brain exposed as he died right on the spot. According to reports, a curfew has been declared by the school authorities via the Nigeria Police force on Thursday the 29th of March. If any student is found outside the school premises after 7pm he/she will be arrested.

FG Confirms Release Of 101 Dapchi School Girls

Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed has confirmed the release of one hundred and one out of the one hundred and ten girls abducted from a Government Girls' secondary school in Dapchi Yobe, State. Ahead of the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja today, Defence Minister,  Mansur Dan-Ali  spoke to reporters and was quoted saying, ' all the security forces were asked to do everything to ensure the safe return of the  Dapchi girls . The released Girls are in Dapchi and being documented; Situation is developing; release is outcome of “backchannel” negotiations; no ransoms were paid'. Information Minister,  Lai Mohammed  also chiipped in that,  'President Buhari’s directive to security agencies to ensure the return of the Dapchi girls has yielded fruit'.  The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission’s (RSIEC) announcement on the date for Local Government Elections in Rivers State, has stirred up politics in the state. After the announcement, the All Progressive Congress (APC) – main opposition in the state, said it will not participate in the Elections. It said it will challenge the decision of the electoral body in court, because it was made in contempt to the court. However, from indications, the APC in Rivers State may be the only party among scores of registered political parties in the state to challenge the conduct of the elections. Governor Wike Signs Three Bills Concerning Security of Rivers State into Law

It has been a media cliché that Rivers State is an unsafe place for investment or people to live in, and the Chief Security Officer of the state, Governor Nyesom Wike never takes it with a smile. The Governor always argues that although there are cases of kidnappings and killings, these also happen in other parts of the country, but is usually overhyped by the media when it concerns Rivers State. On its part, the Rivers State Government has finalized the legislative process to enforce stiffer penalties for perpetrators of some of the crimes that help create the negative perception about the state, and also set up a mechanism for intelligence gathering to aid the security agencies.
